From energy-based treatments to understanding tissue signals, a signal for a directional change in aesthetic medicine.
Thousands of experts gathered to share the shifted focus in aesthetic medicine. The Korean Society for Laser Dermatology and Hair Study held the 51st Autumn Conference at the Seoul Parnas Hotel on December 14th with the theme ‘From Energy to Signal’. The event, attracting around 4,300 healthcare professionals and industry stakeholders, was an occasion to spotlight the society's academic core anew. It extended beyond simple information exchange to in-depth discussions that could provide direct inspiration in the clinical field.
Aesthetic Medicine, Moving Beyond the Era of Energy to the Era of Signal
The main theme of this conference, ‘From Energy to Signal’, indicates a new turning point in aesthetic medicine. It moves away from treatment methods applying high energy, trending towards an emphasis on cell and tissue communication, namely ‘Signaling’. Beyond merely transmitting heat or light, it's a movement towards understanding how tissues respond and recover. This approach is further reorganizing aesthetic medicine towards non-invasive and precise treatment directions.
The keynote sessions included discussions on themes such as “Awakening”, “Regeneration Symphony”, “Signal Lift”, and “Stem Signal”, demonstrating specifically how basic science can be applied in clinical settings.

Expanded Academic Horizon Through Publishing, Focus on Melanin Research
Another highlight of the academic conference was the publishing ceremony. "Melanin", a solo work by Dr. Hyungmoon Kim, Chair of the International Symposium on Laser Medicine and head of Mayrin Clinic Ilsan Branch, was published. This book was released through the global academic publisher 'Springer', with a foreword by Harvard Medical School’s esteemed Prof. Rox Anderson, adding to its credibility.
“This book offering a structural explanation of pigment treatment provides aesthetic medical clinicians with a new dimension of understanding.”
It has been evaluated as a useful reference for subtle understanding, diagnosis, and strategy formulation beyond simple pigment removal.
Legal Sessions on Clinical Realities Draw High Interest among Practitioners
Key agenda items of the conference included various legal issues faced in practically operating clinics. In sessions conducted in partnership with law firm Bae, Kim & Lee LLC, topics like medical advertising regulations, handling black consumers, and strategies to minimize legal disputes were covered, with attendees expressing great satisfaction at the practical help provided by the content.

Lectures focusing on content that can be immediately applied during the process of opening clinics were particularly popular among practitioners. Beyond merely theoretical explanations, they could feel experience-based guides and were highly engaged with the plentiful introductions to related cases.
Venue Combining Cultural Sensibility and Technology
Not just academic depth and technology, but cultural sensibility enhanced the conference. Special events for baseball fans and participants, including a signing session with LG Twins players Oh Ji-hwan and Lim Chan-gyu, elevated the atmosphere. Additionally, the participation of actor ambassadors like Hyung-sik Park and Min-ha Kim transformed the event beyond just a seminar into a multi-sensory satisfying occasion.
Particularly noteworthy was the AI Photo Pass system. Participants could conveniently receive photos automatically recognized and taken at various moments onsite. Structured for easy digital storage and SNS sharing, this system satisfied both safety and convenience.
“A Conference Where People Come and Exchange is Alive”
Many participants who attended the event collectively evaluated it this way.
“It was a conference where people actually gather and enable not only academic discussion but also genuine exchanges.”
This isn't something that can emerge from mere trendiness or one-time events. It's feedback possible because it was a venue where people, academia, and industry harmoniously mingled. The aspect of the conference establishing a platform for trust-based networking is also noteworthy.
